To White Unmapped Fields
The dome shape references Anselm Kiefer’s “Yeder Mensch Steht Unter Seiner Himmelskugel” (each man stands under his own dome of heaven). Kiefer believes that man determines his own “heaven” and his own truth; the artist is the mediator between heaven and earth.
Under God’s “dome of heaven”, man is captured by a loving Creator, who chose a people for Himself, before the foundation of the world. He knows each “banded one” intimately. He “bands them with a coded band.” He knows their number, and numbers the hairs on their heads. Then “he flings what he has marked into emptiness, to white unmapped fields known intimately in the mind of One who flies!”
I began this piece on a blueprint locating manholes and drainage systems. As I worked, little tears appeared in the paper. These became figures ascending to their “manholes,” or mansions, prepared in the “white fields of God!”
“He knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold,” Job 23:10
