This painting is part of my series entitled, One Who Came On the Waters of Time. In particular this painting title comes from Malcolm Guite’s poem. O Rex Gentium. specifically the line, “A King who comes to give away his crown.” We see The King, God the Father, riding a vessel in the heavens. He is lowering a crown to the watery earth beneath. But it is not a crown of gold. His crucified Son wears a crown of thorns. His death and baptism beneath the waves is the paradox of grace!
