This painting was sparked by a newspaper image labeled “HU – The Human Element,” suggesting that humans are merely material—just another element on the periodic table. In contrast, this work reflects on the Incarnation: the moment when the Creator entered creation, took on flesh, and walked on water to redeem humanity.
Here, the divine becomes the Human Element—not to classify us, but to bring life out of death. The layered surface and shifting forms evoke both the mystery of matter and the miracle of grace.
Rendered in oil and cold wax, the layered, abstracted surface evokes both the mystery of the divine and the fragility of flesh. Movement through the turbulent whites and blues suggests a presence not bound by nature’s laws—an echo of the miraculous. This is a meditation on the collision of matter and miracle, and on the God who came not to classify us, but to redeem us.
