This monotype has a Tower of Babel attached to the rag paper beneath it by a method called chine colle, which uses a natural glue and the pressure of the press to embed it onto the surface. The letters El is a  generic name for God and when combined with Bel which is another name for the Hebrew pagan god, Baal, make the word BABEL (Baal -God).
