The Weight of a Leaf
oil and wax on canvas
48 x 48 inches
The poem, Bending to Love by Myra Scovel, has inspired a whole series of paintings. This painting is focused on the first line.
We have bent to love
as a twig bends to
the weight of a leaf.
Together
we have felt the brush of wind,
learned where ripples
breathe under boulders,
listened to the sounds
of a forest growing.
. . .
This poem reminds us that love is about bending or dying to self. The twig bends as we have bent to love. The paradox of dying to live!
