This is one of my “manipulated image” paintings re-purposing an Ikea photograph. Some of the photo is visible but most is manipulated into a new narrative-particularly the ashen Tower of Babel. The title is taken from Simeon’s statement to Mary at Jesus’ circumcision, “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel” (Luke 2:34).
